Why we love what we do
Hello and a warm welcome to Fortuna Earrings!
My name is Michael Merrell-Dominguez and I design and make all the jewellery you will find on this site. I have been making jewellery for around twenty years.
I first became interested in making jewellery when I learned how to make glass beads in the renowned glass making town of Stourbridge in the West Midlands. Using a hot torch, I learned how to create beautiful and unique beads from scratch using the finest Venetian glass. To learn more about my journey into making beads click here. You will find a selection of lamporked glass bead jewellery in the shop section. Shortly afterwards, I began to make jewellery out of semi-precious gemstone beads. Quality is important to me, so I only use Sterling Silver when making my earrings.
I also believe strongly that wearing beautiful jewellery should not cost the Earth, so I ensure that all the materials I use are ethically sourced and fair trad; I only use suppliers who are able to demonstrate sound ethical practices.
In an effort to be as green as possible, all packaging is made from recyclable materials; the only non-recylable materials I use are the little rubber earring backs I supply with each set of earrings to make them more secure.
To see more about my stance on ethics and environmental issues see the FAQs here.
I love to talk to my customers and am very often able to make bespoke pieces for them. If you have an idea for something you would like - such as a design you have seen on this site, but in a different stone - just let me know. It is also possible to make jewellery to go with you earrings such as necklaces, bracelets or pendants. Feel free to contact me.
I hope you enjoy exploring this site.
